Tragically, while on vacation in the US, two Hampshire nurses perished in a collision. Tatiana Brandao, 30, and Raquel Moreira, 28, both Portuguese nationals who worked at University Hospital Southampton (UHS), perished on February 3 in a Jeep-bus collision in the Grand Canyon, Arizona.
Gail Byrne, chief nursing officer at UHS, said: “The untimely deaths of two much-loved colleagues while they enjoyed a vacation together in America have left the whole nursing family at University Hospital Southampton stunned and heartbroken.
“Tatiana, 30, was a well-liked employee of the neurology department when she first joined the trust seven years ago. The stroke ACP team saw 28-year-old Raquel as a highly valuable member because of her five years of employment at UHS. Both had opted to leave Portugal and join UHS, and they both had promising futures.
