The Poowong Country Fire Authority sent a message on Facebook on Saturday, February 11, 2023, announcing Stephen Douglas’s death.

“We are sorry to inform you that Stephen Douglas passed away over the weekend. Stephen joined the Poowong CFA in 1998 and has held a variety of posts there, including fireman, training officer, communications officer, lieutenant, and captain. He was loved by the Poowong Fire Brigade and the locals, and he will be dearly missed.

His death did not have a known reason.
