Jody Porter, best known as the founding member and guitarist of the British indie rock band Fountains of Wayne, passed away on April 6, 2021, at the age of 46 after a long battle with cancer.

Born in London, Porter was a self-taught guitarist who began playing in bands during his teenage years. In 1996, he joined forces with singer-songwriter Chris Collingwood to form Fountains of Wayne. Over the course of their career, the duo released four studio albums and toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Their single “Stacy’s Mom” was a hit in 2003, reaching the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and earning the band a Grammy nomination.

Porter was beloved by fans and fellow musicians alike for his creative guitar work and warm personality. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.
